WhatsApp has been reportedly working on its end-to-end encryption to allow multi-device support without having to connect to a smartphone. Now the app requires a connection with a “main” device for an account to enable end-to-end encryption. This next-generation feature is allowing WhatsApp to plan an exclusive app for iPad for the first time.

WABetaInfo account has tweeted some unofficial details about the upcoming WhatsApp features. The tweets claim that as a part of the proposed multi-device support, iPad and Android tablets would be able to function as “linked devices” to a WhatsApp account. Another tweet clarified that the app will function like a native app on those devices and will work independently. That means it will function as normal even when the smartphone is offline.

The WABetaInfo Account says that the development is still in progress and does not provide an exact date on which the update will arrive. It is mentioned that it will be released in a “future update”. Users who have access to WhatsApp for iOS beta will get access to the iPad version as well. Users have been accustomed to not having WhatsApp on the tablets but the new multi-device support enables the app to work on more devices and it is the perfect time to add this app on more devices.
