IKEA is upgrading the air purifier section to make it ‘smart’. IKEA is all set to release new two “Starkvind” devices, one of which is a floor-standalone air purifier and the other a side table model. The company sticks to its hallmarks, ‘affordability and minimalism’ in its new devices. The devices will be priced at $129 for the standalone model and $189 for the side table model. An extra $35 is to be paid for purchasing a smart home hub to enable the ‘smart’ features including access to the app-based controls.

The prices are lower compared to that of high-end models from Mila and Dyson. But the features are also less. Though the models differ in their outward appearance, they are built of similar features inside. The three-filter system will filter hair and dust, small airborne particles and dust and pollen, and also pollutants like formaldehyde and bad odours.

The devices carry a fan with five different speeds that can either be controlled manually or automatically. It can be controlled from the IKEA Home app and TRADFRI smart home hub. The hub acts as the connection between IKEA smart products and the connected smartphone. The auto mode will make use of the built-in sensor to adjust the speed.

The device will come in both black and white colour options and the side table will have a dark or light finish. It will be available in IKEA stores and online for purchase from October.
