Garmin has launched a new wearable focused entirely on enhancing sleep health the Index Sleep Monitor, a smart band designed specifically for overnight sleep monitoring use. Unlike traditional fitness trackers, this device is worn on the upper arm, promising greater comfort and uninterrupted monitoring through the night.
The band offers up to seven days of battery life and continuously tracks blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) using pulse oximetry during sleep. It also captures detailed sleep metrics including skin temperature, heart rate variability, breathing patterns, and the different sleep stages light, deep, and REM.
All collected data is processed to generate a personalized daily sleep score, which users can access through the Garmin Connect app. For those who already use a Garmin smartwatch but prefer not to wear it to bed, this band complements their daily insights by adding in-depth nighttime tracking.
One standout feature is the skin temperature sensor, which not only helps assess how your environment impacts sleep quality but can also flag potential illnesses through noticeable temperature shifts. This data also plays a role in menstrual health tracking by helping estimate ovulation cycles and offering more accurate period predictions.
Another benefit of the sleep monitor is its integration with Garmin’s “Body Battery” system a tool that evaluates energy levels and suggests when to rest or recharge. Combined with daytime smartwatch data, this system gives a more complete picture of your overall well-being.
Additionally, the Index Sleep Monitor includes overnight stress monitoring and a smart alarm feature, which aims to gently wake you during lighter sleep phases for a more refreshed start to the day.
The wearable is available in two size options Small/Medium and Large/Extra Large and is priced at around ₹14,000 (approximately $170). It’s an ideal addition for users looking to improve their sleep hygiene and better understand how rest influences their physical and mental health.
