Although the official launch is months away, buzz around Apple’s iPhone 17 series is already growing. Expected to arrive in September 2025, the next-generation iPhones could see significant design and hardware changes especially with the introduction of a new, ultra-thin variant reportedly named the iPhone 17 Air.
Thinner, Sleeker, Smarter: The New iPhone Lineup
Following the conclusion of Apple’s WWDC 2025 event, attention has shifted to the much-anticipated iPhone 17 lineup. Industry insiders suggest this could be one of Apple’s most ambitious smartphone releases yet.
A major change in the lineup is the expected replacement of the current “Plus” model with a sleeker and thinner design, possibly branded as the iPhone 17 Air or Slim. The Air name would align the new iPhone with Apple’s existing lightweight product lines like the MacBook Air and iPad Air.
The Air variant is anticipated to be the thinnest iPhone ever—potentially slimmer than the iPhone 6—part of Apple’s broader strategy to lead the industry in lightweight, compact technology.
What to Expect in the iPhone 17 Series
According to reports, the iPhone 17 lineup may include:
- iPhone 17
- iPhone 17 Air (or Slim)
- iPhone 17 Pro
- iPhone 17 Pro Max (or Ultra)
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a 6.6-inch display, a single 48MP rear camera, 8GB RAM, and a compact 2,800mAh battery—about 20% smaller than its predecessor. Its thin frame may result in only one speaker and a potential risk of bending if not carefully designed.
All models are likely to sport 120Hz refresh rate displays, slightly smaller Dynamic Island cutouts, and possibly a new Sky Blue color option. However, upgrades to the front display glass may be postponed, though a nano-texture glass finish could still be in the works for some models.
Big Camera and Performance Boosts
Across the board, front-facing cameras are rumored to receive a major upgrade to 24MP, improving selfie and video quality. The top-end Pro Max (or Ultra) may include a triple-lens setup, all at 48MP, and introduce Tetraprism zoom technology for better optical performance.
Select models might support dual video recording (using front and back cameras simultaneously), while Pro models are rumored to explore 8K video capabilities and possibly include a mechanical aperture—something never seen before in an iPhone.
Under the Hood
Performance will be powered by Apple’s new A19 chip in the iPhone 17 and Air models, while the Pro versions will run on the A19 Pro. These phones will launch with iOS 26, which will introduce a new Liquid Glass interface, an all-new Games Hub, and upgraded battery management tools.
Apple may also start using its own Wi-Fi chips, reducing dependency on third-party suppliers. Pro models are expected to include Wi-Fi 7 support and enhanced thermal systems through vapor chamber cooling.

The iPhone 17 series is expected to debut globally in September 2025, following Apple’s usual launch schedule. Predicted starting prices are:
