Verified e-mails will now have their logos on Gmail

Gmail's new feature to drown out fraudulent messages

Identifying phishing scams and fraudulent messages was always a headache for Gmail. In an attempt to improve its authenticity, Gmail has brought a new feature. This new feature allows verified users to have their corporate logos in place of avatar images. Even though this feature was available to G Suite users earlier, it is now available for the use of everyone. The support of BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) helps in verifying major organizations. Additional data are stored to improve security.

BIMI is the result of the collaboration of Google and similar major messaging companies like MailChimp, Verizon Media, Twilio, and others. On the technical side, the feature makes use of SPF (Sender Policy Framework) or DKIM (Domain Keys Identified Mail) to send messages and deploy DMARC. However, the users can easily identify verified users because the verified emails will have their corporate logos in place of avatar images. It is been reported that the users wouldn’t have to do anything to activate this feature.
