Twitter had tried out shopping features earlier but this time they are adding a shopping module directly onto the profiles. The new shopping features will be rolled out to a couple of brands and they will be able to add a “Shop Module” at the top of their profiles.
This “Shop Module” will provide links to products that its followers can buy. With this, business profiles can add certain products which will be highlighted in a carousel in between their profile info and timeline. The feature is now available to certain brands like GameStop and Arden Cove in the US.
Twitter was not promoting shopping on its platform as other platforms do. But with the introduction of these features, the platform may be changing its attitude towards shopping on its platform. A new “shop” button and new “business profiles” also signal that the platform is definitely going to promote shopping. This will also help creators to earn more money from the platform. Twitter also views these as new money-making features on the platform. The creators can promote their existing merch shop. Twitter is also planning to compete with Facebook’s creator shops with this update.
