Amazon has secured new agreements allowing users to shop directly within TikTok and Pinterest, according to The Information. These deals enable users to purchase items from Amazon ads that appear on either platform without leaving the app. Typically, clicking on an ad would redirect users to Amazon’s site, but with this new arrangement, they can check out using their saved payment method and shipping address directly within TikTok or Pinterest.
According to The Information, screenshots of these ads reveal additional details, such as item prices, estimated shipping times, and Prime eligibility. To use this feature, users must first link their social media accounts to their Amazon profiles. “In-app shopping with Amazon is available for select products advertised on TikTok and sold by Amazon or by independent sellers in Amazon’s store,” an Amazon spokesperson confirmed to the publication.
These new deals reportedly build on Amazon’s earlier partnerships with Meta and Snap under an initiative known as Project Handshake. Like the newer agreements, those deals allowed users to purchase items directly within Snapchat and Instagram. However, The Information points out that it’s unclear why TikTok entered into this deal, as the platform has been working to grow its own shopping capabilities. TikTok introduced live shopping in North America in 2022 and added features like a dedicated shop tab and live stream shop buttons last year. Additionally, with TikTok facing potential bans in the U.S. unless its parent company, ByteDance, agrees to a sale, this partnership with Amazon could undercut its own shopping platform.
