Reddit rolling out TikTok-style video feature

Reddit had acquired TikTok rival Dubsmash in 2020

Reddit is all set to add a new video feature on its iOS app. TechCrunch has reported that Reddit will introduce a TikTok-like video feed to users through a dedicated section. When users tap the button, they will be able to find a swipeable video collection from the subreddits they’ve subscribed to and related communities. The features of upvote, downvote, comment on, or gift awards will apply to this as well.

They had added a basic version of this feature earlier but it was only available when the user tapped on a video. There the first videos will be from the same subreddit. With the new feature, Reddit plans to “bring community through video” and aims to create a “unified” experience that matches with what people expect from app-based video players. Reddit hasn’t given a time frame on when to expect this feature and whether it will come on the Android version is also not clarified.

Reddit had bought TikTok rival Dubsmash in December 2020 and started experimenting with livestreams in 2019. The new feature explains Reddit’s plans to keep its platform relevant at a time where video is important.
