Nothing has officially announced that it will unveil its latest Phone 2a on March 5th, although there’s a caveat for American enthusiasts of the product. Instead of a conventional release, the device will be introduced to the US market as part of a “developer program.” This approach mirrors the strategy used for the original Phone 1, which was offered to US consumers for $299 under a similar-sounding “Beta Membership” initiative.
While specific images of the device or pricing details have not been disclosed, it’s speculated that the Phone 2a may adopt a simplified design akin to the Phone 2. The original design of the Phone 2 was distinguished by features such as a transparent Gorilla Glass back, 11 LED “Glyph” strips, a metal frame, and curved edges.
Rumors suggest that the Phone 2a will be a budget-friendly version of the Phone 2, which was priced at $600. In a teaser video, Nothing hinted at the possibility of reducing costs and emphasized its improved supplier relationships to pass on savings to consumers. Previous rumors indicated a European price point of around €400 ($430), partly attributed to the use of a more affordable MediaTek Dimensity 7200 processor.
Further speculation suggests that the Phone 2a may feature a simplified interface with fewer LED strips and dual cameras positioned at the top, resembling eyes on a head—an observation echoed by Nothing’s slogan “See the world through fresh eyes,” as noted by The Verge. Sketches showcased in Nothing’s release video seem to support this notion.
More information may be unveiled soon, as Nothing is scheduled to host a press conference at the Mobile World Conference (MWC) in Barcelona on February 27th.
