WhatsApp rival Telegram has launched its app for Windows Phone. It is a simple app that focuses much on security. It says that “security flaws in popular apps like WhatsApp have gotten a lot of bad press recently, so we made it our mission to provide the best security on the market.” This messaging app got traction when Facebook acquired WhatsApp. It gained five million downloads in a single day, post the deal.

The features of the telegram messaging app include group chats with up to 200 people, sharing videos up to 1GB and sending multiple photos from the web. All the messages are in the cloud, so the users can easily access them from any of their devices. People who desire extra security, can use Secret Chats that feature end-to-end encryption to ensure that a message can only be read by its intended recipient. These kinds of messages are not logged on the servers and there is also an option to automatically program the messages to self-destruct from both devices so there is never any record of it. Telegram for Windows Phone app was created by a third-party developer using resources open-sourced by the Telegram team. Although there are a number of unofficial apps for Windows Phone, but this one was endorsed by Telegram.
