OnlyFans put a stop on ‘sexually explicit conduct’; Nudity is still okay

OnlyFans is banning users from posting photos and videos that contain “sexually explicit conduct” from October 1st. The company is blocking depictions of sex acts, but it will not ban nudity if the creators abide by OnlyFans’ Acceptable Use Policy. Bloomberg reports that OnlyFans brought in this change to satisfy their payment providers and banking providers. OnlyFans is planning on raising funds from outside investors at a valuation of more than $1 billion.

OnlyFans told The Mag Engadget that “In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines.”

More details on this change will be provided by the company in the coming days. It has promised that the company will continue supporting and guiding its creators “through this change in content guidelines”. The new policy enforcement will prove to be a bit difficult even though all uploads are being monitored by human moderators on OnlyFans.

OnlyFans has more than 2 million creators on its platform and allows them to share their content with paid customers. It has been noted that many top creators sell nude and sexually explicit photos and videos on this platform. During the pandemic, when earning became difficult for many sex workers, they turned to this site for revenue.  It has also proved very useful for online influencers and musicians during the pandemic to share their content.

Another platform that allows creators to share such content with their paid subscribers is Patreon. But it doesn’t allow “pornographic material or sexual services.”

OnlyFans has also released a mobile and TV app that contains content based on fitness, cooking, comedy, music, and other areas, this year. This app doesn’t allow any nudity on it. The company has started advertising OFTV, signalling its shift to a more “sanitized future”.
