Meta Verified, the feature that allows Instagram and Facebook users to verify their identity, is expanding to India. Unlike Twitter, Meta (formerly Facebook) will honor the verified badges already obtained by users on its platforms. In India, users on iOS and Android can verify their accounts for a monthly subscription fee of Rs 699. The option to verify on the web will be available at a later date. Subscribers will receive the verified badge, proactive protection against impersonation, and dedicated account support.
Currently, Meta Verified is not open to businesses as the social network is still exploring potential subscription offerings for them in the future. According to a note from Meta, adjustments have been made based on the learnings from initial testing in Australia and New Zealand. These adjustments include the removal of increased reach as a feature. A similar approach will be taken in India, and Meta is actively exploring new elements to enhance the subscription offering.
To be eligible, the Meta accounts must meet minimum activity requirements, such as prior posting history, and applicants must be at least 18 years or above.
