Mastodon gets an official iPhone app

Mastodon has plans to build an Android app too, but the timelines are not yet set

Mastodon gets an official iPhone app

App Store will now have an official Mastodon app. The app was launched on iOS yesterday by the non-profit behind Mastodon. The app was launched in extension to an existing web version and several third-party apps for iOS, Android, and other platforms as reported by The Verge. This free app and provides similar features as that of Mastodon’s core service. But it doesn’t contain Mastodon’s broad local and federated timelines.

The company has said that they aim to gain new users on their social platform. Mastodon is similar to Twitter except that it is built on different communities rather than a single network. The users can interact between different communities other than the ones on which they have created their account. It is different from most of the other social media platforms and the iOS app will help it reach more users. The CEO of Mastodon has confirmed that they hope to release an Android app too, but the schedule cannot be predicted.

The iOS Mastodon app has polls and sensitive content filters in it. The app page provides information on its “ad-free, chronological timeline”.
