Usernames and passwords aren’t enough nowadays to protect our online accounts. Passwords can be guessed and cracked easily and we see an increase in the usage of biometric security like fingerprint and facial recognition alongside 2FA.

Another security option that is becoming more popular nowadays is the security key. This is a small USB drive-like device that can be attached to your device to authenticate all the logins as long as it remains plugged in. Google had actually launched a Titan Security Key in 2018 and the company is now back with a newer and updated version of it. It has removed the Bluetooth support it had in the initial version with NFC support.

Google stated that the current Bluetooth models out there will continue to work but “Since NFC functionality is now supported by a wide range of Android phones and iPhones, we are discontinuing the Bluetooth Titan Security Key and focusing on the easier and more widely available NFC capability.”

Google has launched two models with support for USB-A and USB-C support. This will allow users to select keys according to their device’s port. It will be compatible with devices including iPad Pro that has switched over to USB-C. The devices are available on Google’s store. The USB-A will cost $30 and the USB-C model will cost $35.
