Gigabyte PC maker faces ransomware attacks after Apple and Acer

After Apple and Acer, Gigabyte suffers major ransomware attacks. It was reported that the attackers stole some important data too. The attack happened between 3rd and 4th of August. The company has shut down some of its IT infrastructure due to the attack. Even though the company claims that the attack was minor, reports appear that the attack was severe.

Reports on attacks on Taiwan-based Gigabyte was reported by Bleeping Computer and United Daily News. According to Bleeping Computer reports RansomEXX, the attackers had stolen 112GB of some internal data as well as information from a code repository. Details on Intel and AMD chips were also stolen. It has affected the Gigabyte support page too. Payments on ransom was not clarified by the company.

RansomEXX was rebranded last year and is reported to have attacked many higher profile organizations. Such attacks on big PC companies are somewhat common. They have important data to protect. So, it is normal that they pay the ransom to clear away from the attack. If not paid, such attacks may also have long-term effects.
