Facebook has announced a new feature called Nearby Friends. This new feature will help you find your nearby friends, so you can get in touch with them and meet up. Nearby Friends is an optional feature and you can choose who can see if you’re nearby, like your friends, close friends, or a specific friends list. You can turn this feature on or off at any time and your friends will have to decide to share their location for it to work. In other words both your friend and you have to turn on this feature for it to work effectively.
In this feature there is also an option to share a precise location with a specific friend for a set period of time, such as the next hour. When you share your precise location, the friend you choose will see exactly where you are on a map, which helps you find each other and meet up. Further to this, your friends who are travelling with this feature on and sharing with you, you will be able to see the places they are visiting. In case the place is the one, you have already been, then you can send a recommendation for a great restaurant. This feature will also send push notifications to your mobile device to alert you when your best mate is nearby. Facebook says that the Nearby Friends feature is rolling out to both Android and iOS in the coming weeks.
