OpenAI has introduced a major update to its voice-based conversation feature in ChatGPT, making interactions sound more natural and expressive than ever before.
The new improvements enhance the overall flow of dialogue by incorporating more realistic speech patterns, including better intonation, natural pauses, and expressive tones to convey emotions such as empathy or even sarcasm. These changes aim to make the virtual assistant sound less robotic and more like a human conversational partner.
Another key addition is the enhanced real-time translation capability. Users can now ask ChatGPT to translate spoken conversations seamlessly. The assistant will continue interpreting until directed to stop or switch languages—making it especially useful for multilingual communication.
This feature, called Advanced Voice, is currently available to all paid subscribers of ChatGPT across various devices and regions, including India.
OpenAI did note a few caveats with the latest update. While the voice output is now more fluid, users may occasionally notice slight inconsistencies in audio quality, such as shifts in tone or pitch. Additionally, the voice feature may still occasionally produce unintended noises, background audio, or misinterpretations.
Despite these minor issues, the upgrade marks a significant step toward more intuitive and immersive human-AI conversations.
