Twitter has faced a lot of criticism for its lack of accessibility features. It has been hearing it when Twitter first rolled out voice tweets. Finally, it has provided the auto-generated captions that appear when you click the “CC” button. The feature was promised to roll out earlier but came late.
The feature is limited to iOS devices because voice tweets have not been enabled on Android devices. The captions will be generated in any of the following languages- English, Japanese, Portuguese, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, French, Indonesian, Korean and Italian. It will be created only on new tweets as the captions are generated only when tweets are created.
Twitter has been receiving suggestions on allowing auto-generated captions when it tested the voice tweets feature. But it could not work on it saying that had no dedicated team for it and the employees had to donate additional time to work on such features. Now it has a dedicated team for accessibility features.
