Apple has rolled out a new update to its Apple Sports app, just in time for the Wimbledon season. The latest update introduces live tennis coverage for major tournaments and a redesigned home screen, aiming to deliver a more personalized experience for sports fans.

With this update, users can now follow real-time tennis scores from all Grand Slam events and ATP/WTA 1000-level tournaments. The app allows fans to track each point from every men’s and women’s singles match, stay informed about their favorite players’ tournament journeys, and view complete match results — from the opening round to the finals.

Apple has also introduced a refreshed home screen layout, focused on making it easier for users to stay on top of their favorite teams and leagues. The update groups matches and events by league and displays them in a user-defined order. Additionally, fans’ favourite teams are pinned at the top, ensuring quick access to the latest scores and developments.

Growing Sports Coverage

The Apple Sports app, which first launched in February 2024, has gradually expanded its offerings. A significant update in August last year added support for football scores and Live Activities.

Currently, the app supports a broad range of sports leagues and competitions, including:

  • Football/Soccer: Premier League, Champions League, LaLiga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, FA Cup, League Cup, Europa League, Conference League, LIGA MX, MLS
  • Basketball: NBA, WNBA, Men’s and Women’s College Basketball (U.S.)
  • Cricket-style Competitions (not yet included but anticipated by Indian users)
  • American Sports: NFL, NHL, MLB, NCAA Football (FBS and FCS), EFL Championship, NWSL

The app is currently available in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, with potential for future international expansion.

What This Means for Sports Fans

While the app hasn’t launched in India yet, its growing coverage of global leagues and sports signals Apple’s intent to turn the Sports app into a comprehensive hub for live scores and updates. The addition of tennis especially before Wimbledon marks a strategic move to attract a wider audience of sports enthusiasts.

As Indian tennis fans gear up for Wimbledon, this AI-powered real-time sports tracking tool could soon become a go-to solution if rolled out in more regions.
