22-year-old arrested for hacking Twitter accounts

A 22-year-old man was arrested in Spain for hacking some high-profile accounts on Twitter. The man hacked almost 130 profiles on Twitter, including the official accounts of Elon Musk, Barack Obama and Kanye West.

He hacked the accounts and tweeted about a Bitcoin scam, encouraging the followers to join it. This happened last year in July. Joseph O’Connor who was the man behind this hacking and is also suspected of hacking on TikTok and Snapchat. He was arrested on charges of conspiracy to access a protected computer and steal information from it. The case was handled by the San Francisco Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. They were assisted by the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Cyber Crimes Unit and the United States Secret Service. They had earlier arrested three men on similar charges.

These hackers used the hacked accounts to transfer cryptocurrency to a specific Bitcoin wallet to double the amount they transferred. Following the hack, Twitter had to suspend the verified accounts from tweeting. Twitter said that the hackers may have targeted their employees to obtain details to hack those accounts.
