YouTube Shorts, the platform’s short-form video feature, is testing a new integration with Google Lens, allowing users to search and learn more about items visible in a video — all within the app. The beta feature is rolling out to users this week and could transform the way viewers interact with content.

Once the feature is active on your account, simply pause a Short, tap on the Lens icon in the top menu, and highlight or select the object you want more information about. Google Lens will then show relevant visual matches and search results overlaid directly on the video.

This tool can be especially useful for identifying products, landmarks, clothing, gadgets, and other visually recognizable items in a clip, making the Shorts experience more informative and engaging.

Currently, Google has clarified that no advertisements will appear in the search results during this testing phase. Also, Shorts that include YouTube Shopping affiliate links or paid product promotions will not support the Lens feature for now.

While the integration is not yet commercial, the potential for future e-commerce use is significant. It could eventually become a valuable tool for creators, brands, and consumers looking to turn inspiration into action — especially in a market like India, where visual search and video consumption are both growing rapidly.
