After Spotify has introduced offline listening on Wear OS, Google is taking steps to make sure that its YouTube Music won’t fall far behind. It has released a Wear OS app for YouTube Music. It is actually a good thing for people who liked to listen to music from Google’s streaming service. Google had shut down its Google Play Music on Wear OS in August last year. Even though YouTube Music has come as a Wear OS app, it still has to improve in many ways.
It is rather sad that the new app will only be available on the two new smartwatches launched by Samsung powered by Wear OS 3. Google has confirmed it. The new app cannot be tried right away since the compatible watches are not yet out in the market. The Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will be out only on August 27th. On these devices, the app will be compatible.
The YouTube Music Wear OS app will allow downloading songs to the smartwatches by YouTube Premium subscribers. Like the feature provided by the Spotify Wear OS app, YouTube Music will also allow users to listen to music without having an internet connection. Users will only require Bluetooth headphones and the smartwatch. But 9to5Google reports that there might be some problems with the app that they warn the users to keep in mind while using the app. It reports that the app doesn’t allow streaming music as of now and will only support downloaded songs. The report also says that songs can only be downloaded when the smartwatch is connected to a charger.
It is more important that Google launches the YouTube Music Wear OS app, and these caveats can be ignored for now. We can expect that the company will work on these limitations and launch updates and bring the app to other Wear OS devices.
