WhatsApp has introduced a new “Favorites” filter to help users quickly locate and connect with important chats and contacts directly from the calls tab.
This feature, which began rolling out on Tuesday, will be available to all WhatsApp users in the coming weeks. The “Favorites” filter allows users to group chats with their best friends or family members for easy access. Additionally, a new “Favorites” section has been added to the calls tab, enabling speed-dial functionality for favorite contacts without the need to sift through recent call logs or search through the contacts list.
To add a contact or group to your favorites, select the “Favorites” filter from the chats screen or use the “Add favorite” option after selecting a contact or group from the calls tab. Alternatively, you can long-tap a chat and choose “Add to favorite.” WhatsApp also allows users to manage their favorite contacts and groups by navigating to Settings > Favorites > Add to Favorite, where they can reorder them as needed.
WABetaInfo reported that WhatsApp began testing this feature for selecting favorite contacts on iOS and the web in February, and it appeared on Android in April.
This update follows the introduction of chat filters by WhatsApp three months ago. Initially, the app released “All,” “Unread,” and “Groups” as filters. The addition of “Favorites” enhances the utility of chat filters, providing users with a native solution for quickly calling or video chatting with their favorite contacts, which previously required alternative methods.
