Samsung Electronics has recently unveiled its 3D Map View feature, initially showcased at CES 2024, now accessible in all countries with SmartThings access.

The Map View feature transforms real floor plans into virtual images within the SmartThings app, facilitating streamlined home management. Users can seamlessly monitor and adjust various aspects such as lighting, temperature, air quality, and energy consumption from any location at any time.

This innovative feature addresses the challenge of managing the increasing number of connected devices in modern homes by providing users with a comprehensive overview of their entire home layout in real time. Unlike its previous 2D model, the updated 3D Map View leverages Spatial AI in Samsung devices, utilizing LiDAR sensors to precisely measure and map a home’s layout, enhancing user understanding of spatial conditions.

Moreover, the feature’s filter function has been enhanced to enable more efficient monitoring and control of essential devices. Additionally, the integration of AI characters, unveiled at CES 2024, is set to further enhance user experience and customization by the year’s end.

Accessible through the SmartThings app on Android, iOS mobile devices, and TVs, Map View’s controls will soon be extended to additional hubs like Family Hub refrigerators within the first half of the year. Initially introduced in Korea and the United States, Map View is now available globally to SmartThings app users.

Seungbeom Choi, Head of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the company’s commitment to empowering customers with seamless home device control. Samsung is actively collaborating with construction firms to expand Map View’s application beyond homes to apartments and office spaces, aiming to create smart environments globally. Furthermore, Samsung plans to introduce optimized user experiences for large screens and Quick Control features, facilitating easy access to key functions for both consumers and B2B operators.
