In a major move to boost its artificial intelligence and data infrastructure, global cloud leader Salesforce has announced the acquisition of cloud data management firm Informatica in an equity deal valued at $8 billion.
The deal, revealed on Tuesday, marks a significant strategic shift for Salesforce, enhancing its ability to deliver enterprise-grade AI solutions with stronger data governance and infrastructure. Under the agreement, Salesforce will pay $25 per share in cash for Informatica’s Class A and Class B-1 common stock, accounting for its previous investment in the company.
Founded in 1993, Informatica serves over 5,000 clients in more than 100 countries. Known for its expertise in data integration, quality, and governance, the company had a market capitalization of approximately $7.1 billion at the time of the announcement.
This acquisition is set to support Salesforce’s AI-driven product suite, including Agentforce, Data Cloud, Tableau, MuleSoft, and Customer 360. Salesforce aims to enable smarter, more autonomous AI agents that operate with greater intelligence, accuracy, and responsibility.
“Together, we’ll supercharge Agentforce, Data Cloud, and more—empowering our AI agents to act with context and confidence across the enterprise,” said Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. He called the acquisition a “transformational step” in delivering safe, responsible, and scalable AI solutions for modern businesses.
While talks of this deal first emerged in April 2024, both companies initially saw a drop in share prices amid speculation over integration challenges. Informatica even publicly denied any sale discussions at the time. But the landscape shifted, and the deal is now officially confirmed.
This isn’t Salesforce’s first move in the data management space. Last year, the company acquired Own Company—a data backup and security firm—for $1.9 billion, further reinforcing its focus on data protection and reliability.
For Indian businesses increasingly adopting AI and cloud technologies, Salesforce’s acquisition of Informatica signals a growing commitment to providing robust, enterprise-ready data tools that prioritize security, scalability, and innovation.
