Samsung Electronics brought fans closer to the Olympic Games Paris 2024 sailing competition in Marseille through an innovative use of Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones. By installing these smartphones on each boat, fans could experience the race as if they were right alongside their favorite athletes, navigating the Mediterranean Sea.
This groundbreaking initiative, in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), and other Olympic partners, utilized advanced software and technology to capture and transmit this unique footage. For kitesurfing and windsurfing events, Galaxy smartphones were attached to athletes’ shoulders and buoys, ensuring fans never missed any action.
The project involved extensive research, development, and testing to ensure video quality and connectivity in various weather conditions, from strong winds and large waves to extreme heat. Samsung and its partners addressed these challenges by enhancing the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) features, boosting transmission power, and installing relay towers on chase boats for seamless live streaming.
Aligned with the 2024 Paris Olympics’ vision of “Games Wide Open,” Samsung is committed to delivering a more immersive experience for fans worldwide.
