A new version of the Nest Learning Thermostat might be on the horizon, according to leaked promotional photos. These images suggest that while the new smart thermostat will retain a similar design to its predecessor, Google may have replaced the movable dial with a touchscreen.

The photos were shared by Arsène Lupin on Twitter and later posted by 9to5Google. They appear to be promotional materials for a new Google Nest Temperature Sensor, which will be compatible with three Nest thermostats, including the yet-to-be-released Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen).

The upcoming Learning Thermostat seems to feature a rounded glass face rather than a flat one, with a refined interface. Unlike the 2015 Nest Learning Thermostat that used a rotate-and-press interface, the new model’s larger glass surface and thinner metal bezel suggest it may incorporate touch controls.

In terms of functionality, this new model may not differ significantly from the 2015 version. An FCC listing from last month indicates that its wireless capabilities will remain the same, featuring Soli low-energy motion sensing. However, potential upgrades, such as integration with Matter, could be on the cards, but we’ll have to wait for further details.
