Microsoft launches personalized news feed called Start

Microsoft is introducing a personalized news feed with the name Start. The news feed will be added to the Windows 10 taskbar and the Windows 11 widgets section. The feed can also be accessed through the web, iOS, and Android apps. It will also be available on the new tab page in Microsoft Edge.

The news feed will employ Microsoft’s artificial intelligence and machine learning expertise to bring up a news feed that is up-to-date and compiled according to the user’s preferences. The curation of news will happen from over 1,000 publishers from all over the world. When the user regularly uses Start, it will automatically identify their interests and preferences. It will then become closer to the things that the user wishes to read about. Users can also mark the news that they don’t like to see and they can also customize the feed whenever they like. The preferences the user choose will be linked to their Microsoft account so it will provide the same personalized feed on all platform on which they are logged in.

Information cards for various major topics, such as weather, traffic, sports, and finance, are included in Start. You can choose which cards appear for quick access to information.

MSN isn’t going away, but Microsoft News is being replaced by Start. The next time customers update the app, the icon and name will change to Start branding. Visitors to the Microsoft News website will also be diverted to the Start page.

Given the importance of the Start button in the operating system over the last couple of decades, the feed’s name may cause some confusion among the Windows users (that menu is getting a revamp in Windows 11). However, Microsoft Start appears to be a polished experience, and it could be a good way to stay up to date on the news that interests the users.
