Microsoft Launches iOS and Android Apps for Designer, Its AI-Powered Canva Competitor

Microsoft has officially launched its Designer platform for AI image generation. After an extensive preview phase, Designer is now available to most Microsoft account holders. Accessible on the web in over 80 languages, as well as via mobile apps for iOS and Android, and a Windows app, Designer allows users to create brand new visuals using AI or to edit existing images. The platform offers numerous templates to assist in creating common image types, such as greeting cards, smartphone wallpapers, or profile avatars. For more experienced artists, there is the option to build everything from scratch, develop custom templates, and use their own artwork.

While Designer can function independently, Microsoft emphasizes its integration with other company services. With the help of the Copilot AI chatbot, Designer images can be seamlessly incorporated into Microsoft Word and PowerPoint projects. However, taking full advantage of this feature requires a Copilot Pro subscription.

If you’re familiar with Canva, Designer will seem quite similar in its user experience, now enhanced with AI capabilities. Initially announced by Microsoft in 2022, Designer is integrated with OpenAI’s DALL-E image generator. Given that Copilot already incorporates DALL-E 3 and ChatGPT 4 Turbo, it’s logical that Designer would synchronize with these existing services.
