Huawei’s latest foldable smartphone, the Pura X, won’t be hitting American stores, making it a rare sight outside select markets. However, this unique device is still generating buzz for its distinctive design and unconventional form factor.
A Wide-Screen Foldable Unlike Others
The Pura X features a 6.3-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, making it wider and more tablet-like than most foldable phones. When folded, the device transforms into a compact square, revealing a 3.5-inch cover display while shifting the rear camera array to the front. This design sets it apart from Huawei’s more radical tri-fold Mate XT, but it still carries an unconventional aesthetic.
Huawei’s First Android-Free Foldable
Priced at 7,499 Chinese yuan (approximately $1,037), the Pura X is the first Huawei smartphone to run entirely without Android. Instead, it operates on the latest version of HarmonyOS, which was introduced in November.
The device also debuts Xiaoyi, Huawei’s in-house AI assistant, which leverages DeepSeek’s technology to enhance Huawei’s Pangu AI model.
Despite its limited availability, the Pura X stands out as a bold step in Huawei’s foldable smartphone lineup, pushing the boundaries of form factor and software independence.
