In a recent announcement at the Bett ed-tech event held in the UK, Google introduced a host of new features focusing on classroom management, accessibility, and AI-driven tools for question creation and lesson planning.

AI-Powered Features

Google’s commitment to enhancing the educational experience is evident in its AI-powered features. Teachers can now seamlessly integrate questions into YouTube videos through the Classroom assignment tool. AI assistance is set to provide suggestions for questions at various timestamps, a feature initially unveiled in June 2023. Initially requiring application, this feature is now accessible to all educators.

The Practice sets feature, utilizing AI to generate answers and general hints, is now available in over 50 languages. Moreover, educators can convert a Google Form into a practice set. Google introduces a new Resources tab for efficient management of practice sets and interactive questions posed during video sessions. The generative AI tool, Duet AI, within Google Workspace assists teachers in developing comprehensive lesson plans.

Class Management

In a bid to enhance class management, Google introduces the capability for teachers to create distinct groups within the Classroom, facilitating the assignment of different tasks to each group. The speaker spotlight feature in Slides now allows educators to incorporate narration into their presentations. Additionally, the eSignature facility in Google Workspace streamlines the process of collecting signatures for approvals or contracts. Updates to Classroom analytics provide educators with valuable insights into statistics such as assignment completion and grade trends.

Accessibility

Google places a strong emphasis on accessibility improvements. Users on ChromeOS can now extract text from PDFs for screen readers, while the Chrome browser permits the highlighting and vocalization of text. Google Meet receives updates, including closed captions in 30 languages and the ability to pin multiple hosts.

Chromebooks

At Bett, Google showcases 15 new Chromebooks which also come with features like students can look at their upcoming assignments directly from the home screen.
