The popular geography-based game GeoGuessr is making its way to Steam, with an early access launch planned for April. Known for challenging players to identify locations worldwide using random Google Street View images, the game’s arrival on Steam will make it more accessible, particularly for Steam Deck users, eliminating the need for browser-based workarounds.

The developers have chosen early access to refine gameplay, introduce new features, and gather player feedback to deliver the best possible experience. The Steam edition will launch with competitive solo mode and casual Team Duels, with additional modes and features planned in the coming months. The ultimate goal is to create the best competitive and casual geography game.

GeoGuessr has a thriving competitive community, with this year’s world championship boasting a $100,000 prize pool. However, players aiming for the top ranks will face fierce competition, as pro players can identify locations based on subtle details like vegetation, cloud formations, and even room decor.

The full pricing details for the Steam version remain unclear. However, a free version will provide unlimited access to the amateur division and unranked Team Duels. Players seeking the full Solo Duels mode will need to purchase a Steam Pass within the game.

The game is expected to remain in early access for at least six months, with the store page confirming that pricing won’t change during this period. Additionally, the developers do not anticipate increasing the price when the game exits early access.

GeoGuessr’s original web version, which has been around for 12 years, offers three free daily guesses, with full access requiring a subscription starting at $2.50 per month. Meanwhile, the mobile app’s Pro Unlimited plan costs $3 per month. The Steam version will support cross-play with the browser and mobile editions, though existing subscriptions will not grant full access to the Steam release.
