Facebook CEO confirmed on an earnings call, the launch of Ray-Ban ‘smart glasses’ which was on their hardware launch list for so long. But this time too things are a bit unclear. The exact date of launch and the specifications are unknown.
Zuckerberg added that the smart glasses will be developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica. “The glasses have their iconic form factor, and they let you do some pretty neat things” is what he said about the glasses. Facebook earlier clarified that the glasses cannot be strictly brought under the category of augmented reality devices.
It will also not have an integrated display and might be similar to Amazon’s Echo Frames. But Zuckerberg hinted that the launch will be a part of the company’s “journey towards full augmented reality glasses in the future.” This is part of the larger project of building the “metaverse” which is Facebook’s dream project of combining physical and virtual worlds to enable better advancements in terms of shopping, work, and socializing.
Let’s look forward to the launch of the Ray-Ban ‘smart glasses’.
