San Diego Comic-Con is a popular time for major announcements in the geek community, but it’s also prone to accidental early reveals. Today, an attendee snapped a photo at the Dark Horse Comics booth that may have unintentionally disclosed plans for remastering two Soul Reaver games. The image featured a statue of characters Raziel and Kain, accompanied by a sign reading Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver I and II Remastered. The sign has since been removed.

Randy Lahrman, Dark Horse Comics’ Vice President of Product Development and Sales, discussed the leak with GameSpot at the convention. He mentioned that the statue will be available in August and that more details would be shared later, but he did not comment on the potential game remasters.

The Soul Reaver games, created by Crystal Dynamics, originally debuted in 1999 on the PlayStation with Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Its sequel, Soul Reaver II, was released two years later. Both titles were directed by Amy Hennig, who later worked on Naughty Dog’s Uncharted and Jak and Daxter franchises. Crystal Dynamics, renowned for the rebooted Lara Croft series, was acquired by Embracer Group along with Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix Montréal in 2022.

The possibility of remasters seems credible. Recently, news emerged about a prequel graphic novel titled Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise, set to launch as a Kickstarter project by Bit Bot and Crystal Dynamics.

We have reached out to Crystal Dynamics for a statement on today’s leak and will update the story with any official information received.
