The gaming world has been abuzz with chatter surrounding Borderlands 4, and much of the attention has come courtesy of Gearbox Software’s CEO, Randy Pitchford. Known for being outspoken on social media, Pitchford recently stirred up both criticism and curiosity over the game’s pricing and post-launch plans.

Earlier, Pitchford raised eyebrows by suggesting that “real fans” wouldn’t hesitate to pay $80 for the next instalment of the Borderlands franchise an off hand remark that didn’t sit well with many gamers. However, that speculation was put to rest when publisher 2K officially announced that the base edition of Borderlands 4 will be priced at $69.99 (approximately ₹5,800)—not the controversial $80 mark many feared.

No Paid Early Access, Launch Moved Up

Pitchford took to Twitter to celebrate the news, highlighting that there would be no paid early access, and that the release date has been moved up to September 12. He also teased a robust post-launch content roadmap.

“I am so stoked that Borderlands 4 is $69.99 and not $80,” Pitchford tweeted. “I am so stoked we’re not doing any paid early access stuff and moved the date earlier to Sept 12. I am stoked that we are planning a TON of awesome DLC.”

What’s Included in the Premium Editions?

While the standard edition keeps things simple, the $100 Deluxe Edition is expected to feature four DLC packs that include new missions and cosmetic items. For those looking for more expansive content, the $130 Super Deluxe Edition adds two additional story expansions. Though Pitchford called it “a ton,” it’s likely there’s more to be unveiled post-launch.

He further clarified that Gearbox is still finalising the post-launch content strategy, hinting at a mix of free and paid expansions based on player feedback and in-game momentum.

“We already have lots of amazing plans in mind for a range of free and paid content post launch,” Pitchford added.

A Big Release After Six Years

With nearly six years having passed since the last mainline Borderlands title, expectations are high. The franchise has a strong following in India, particularly among PC and console gamers who enjoy cooperative action RPGs with over-the-top humour and stylized visuals.

As excitement builds for Borderlands 4’s September release, fans will be watching closely to see if the game lives up to the hype and if Pitchford’s promises translate into a memorable experience.
