We are not sure whether Apple will develop this technology further

Built-in trackpads that act as a mouse are a common feature on all laptops. This makes it easier for users as they don’t have to carry around a separate mouse. But the built-in trackpads are often less precise than the mouse. This is because the users’ fingers act as the pointer then.

Apple is introducing a solution for this problem. Apple is introducing a mouse that can be hidden inside the keycap on the keyboard. According to Patently Apple, this new feature was filed for a patent by Apple by the name “Deployable Key Mouse”. This patent by Apple is for a keyboard that has a keycap that can be removed and used as a mouse. In normal situations, it will function as a keyboard. But at times when the user needs more precision, they can remove a section of the keyboard and use it as a mouse. We do not how precise and effective it will be given the size of it.

The size question still makes some people believe that users will be better off with the trackpad. But Apple might be looking forward to using the technology on its future devices like updated versions of the Magic Keyboard iPad accessory. The details on whether Apple will develop it further and launch it in the market are still not known.
