Nvidia could soon introduce its first Arm-based PC chip, with reports suggesting a potential debut in Alienware gaming laptops by late 2025 or early 2026. The semiconductor giant is said to be collaborating with MediaTek to create an advanced processing unit (APU) that merges an Arm CPU with Nvidia’s next-gen Blackwell GPU technology.
While Nvidia already has a strong foothold in gaming laptops powered by Intel and AMD processors, this move into Arm-based chips could significantly improve gaming experiences on Windows devices running Arm architecture. Current Arm-based chips like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X series rely on Microsoft’s Prism emulation software to run PC games something that has resulted in limited performance and compatibility, particularly on Qualcomm’s GPUs.
Speculation around Nvidia’s Arm-powered chip began surfacing in 2023, pointing to a potential new competitor in the PC processor market. A recent leak from a tech YouTuber suggested the chip might operate in the 80W to 120W power range, aligning it with the performance needs of high-end gaming laptops.
Earlier this year, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang mentioned plans for an Arm CPU powering “Digits,” Nvidia’s personal AI supercomputer, fueling expectations of broader use of Arm-based chips in its future offerings. Dell’s CEO also hinted at a future AI PC featuring Nvidia technology, suggesting that such a collaboration could materialize soon.
Nvidia isn’t alone in eyeing the Arm CPU market. MediaTek is reportedly developing its own Arm chip, while AMD is also believed to be working on an Arm-based processor designed for Microsoft’s Surface devices.
As the tech industry shifts towards energy-efficient yet powerful computing solutions, Nvidia’s venture into the Arm space could redefine the landscape of gaming and AI-enabled PCs, particularly as competition in this segment continues to intensify.
