LG has announced that it has developed an 18-inch OLED panel that is so flexible to roll into a 3cm tube, when measured across. To achieve this flexibility, the company uses a new polyamide film on the back of the display. This film offers more flexibility than plastic and is even more thinner. The prototype has a resolution of 1,200 x 810. Apart from the flexible display, LG has also showcased a transparent OLED panel which has triple the transmittance of the currently available see-through LCD displays. LG Display’s SVP and Head of R&D, In-Byung Kang, says that “by 2017, we will successfully develop an Ultra HD flexible and transparent OLED panel of more than 60 inches.” So TVs that can be rolled up and kept aside is not far away.
