The popular game Angry Birds has been around for over 13 years and was initially released on platforms like iOS, webOS, and Maemo 5 before it came to Android. Now, developer Rovio is being acquired by Sega for approximately $776 million. Adding to the excitement, Rovio is opening its first Angry Birds-themed restaurant called “iSwii by Angry Birds” in Flushing, Queens, NY, on July 8th. The restaurant promises a delightful experience with a variety of culinary treats, interactive technology, and the latest Angry Birds games.

The restaurant is visually appealing, featuring NYC-themed statue installations, a ceiling mural, and terrazzo counters resembling dessert sprinkles. Inside, you’ll find nest-like wicker and hanging chairs, bird paradise graphic wall coverings, and tropical plants, creating a unique atmosphere. Although no specific menu items were mentioned in the press release, the focus seems to be on delicious seasonal holiday cakes, pastries, candies, and other sweets.

The restaurant also offers private parties in special areas known as “nests” or rooms. These spaces provide guests with the opportunity to enjoy Angry Birds VR games and treats. Customizable Angry Birds-themed gift bags are available for party attendees.

While some may question the success of a restaurant based on a game that peaked in popularity around 2015 with the Angry Birds Movie, Sega’s substantial purchase of Rovio demonstrates the enduring value of the intellectual property. Furthermore, the Angry Birds app has garnered over 5 billion downloads to date. The restaurant’s nostalgic 2013 vibe could potentially attract customers seeking a trip down memory lane.
