Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia will receive Royce Award, which is the highest award in the semiconductor industry. The award will be presented by the members of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) at their annual awards dinner. It is scheduled to be held on November 18th.

The award goes by the name of Robert N. Noyce who has given many contributions to the chip industry. He had the nickname of “mayor of Silicon Valley”. He died in 1990. His pioneering research has helped the chip industry to reach where it is today.

This award is presented to an individual who has given outstanding contributions to the semiconductor industry in technology or public policy. SIA president and CEO John Neuffer said that Huang is the perfect recipient for this award because of his vision and achievements which had “revolutionized computing, and advanced artificial intelligence” (VentureBeat). He added that Huang’s work has paved way for many developments. He also said that Huang is continuing to bring more advanced technologies to the industry.

Nvidia was founded in 1993 by Huang and he has been its CEO since the beginning. The company started with 3D graphics, slowly stepping into the 3D gaming market making it the world’s largest entertainment industry. More recent technological advancements made Nvidia’s chips to become the control center for computers, robots, and self-driving cars. The company is now worth $490 billion on the stock market and has 20,000 employees.

He was also the recipient of the IEEE Founder’s Medal; the Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award; and honorary doctorate degrees from Taiwan’s National Chiao Tung University, National Taiwan University, and Oregon State University. In 2019, Harvard Business Review ranked him No. 1 on its list of the world’s 100 best-performing CEOs over the lifetime of their tenure.
