X is developing a new feature to help mitigate spam posts on its platform. According to independent app researcher Nima Owji, who has previously uncovered several unreleased features, the platform, formerly known as Twitter, is working on an option to disable links in replies. Owji’s posted image shows users can tick a box to prevent others from responding with links to their posts.

Christopher Stanley, X’s Senior Director for Security Engineering, confirmed the feature in response to a post about it, stating, “My team built this.” While this feature aims to keep spam bots at bay, it could also prevent users from promoting their websites in others’ posts. However, it may also hinder users from posting links to legitimate sources, potentially affecting efforts to debunk false information and curb the spread of fake news.

Previously, Owji discovered that X was exploring an in-app currency to help creators earn money from the platform. He also found that X was developing new ID verification features after widespread impersonation issues and was planning to offer job listings to verified organizations to compete with LinkedIn.
