Microsoft had earlier clarified that it will allow Windows 11 on PCs with old CPUs. This was in view to help businesses to test the new version of the OS. But the company has revealed that such users might not get updates in the long run. It will also limit the experience that Windows 11 is likely to provide. The company has hinted that the old CPUs might not even get driver or security upgrades. So, if you wish to keep your system secure, you better not install Windows 11 on the old hardware.

Although this move came rather fastly, it was not unexpected. If Microsoft releases such updates on unsupported hardware, it will get into legal problems. That means according to the law, it cannot release these updates. However, you will get to experience the basic Windows 11 on the unsupported hardware. But as mentioned earlier, it is not safe.

It is rather a non-traditional move from the part of Microsoft. They had earlier released security patches for operating systems after it has been shelved. Maybe they will release an update or two. They just don’t want people to expect more. But it is also possible that Microsoft doesn’t want to get into trouble and thus will not release any update. This is for systems older than Intel 8th Gen CPU. Maybe the company wants you to have the experience of Windows 11 on relatively new hardware.
