The tech giants are entering into a team with the US cyber team to fight ransomware and protect cloud computing systems from possible attacks. Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have signed to be part of a Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative which brings together government and private skills and resources to ensure protection from hackers according to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).

CISA director Jen Easterly expressed that “With these extraordinarily capable partners, our initial focus will be on efforts to combat ransomware and developing a planning framework to coordinate incidents affecting cloud service providers.” It will also increase the sharing of information between government and private sectors so the risks of attacks can be reduced.

US President Joe Biden had earlier expressed concern about the increase in cyberattacks and said that if the country is going to end up in a war it will be “as a consequence of a cyber breach.” There was a number of cyberattacks in the country for some time. Biden’s government has set up a $20 billion plan to develop infrastructure for protection against cyberattacks among many other efforts to secure cyberspace.

The new collaborative was introduced by Easterly at a Black Hat cybersecurity conference in Las Vegas. Apart from the above-mentioned tech giants, AT&T, Crowdstrike, and FireEye have also joined the project. Easterly also asked more firms to join this project.
