Spotify has announced that it will provide support for offline listening to all Wear OS users. The platform is slowly rolling out this update. Playing music directly from smartwatches required the presence of a smartphone nearby. This is due to the absence of widespread support. Therefore, the majority of the smartwatches that didn’t have an option for LTE connectivity couldn’t stream music. Also, only a few music streaming platforms allow offline listening. Even YouTube is still working on offline availability in an upcoming update of its Wear OS app.
When Samsung launched the new Galaxy Watch 4, Spotify had announced the offline listening option. Spotify said that it won’t be restricted to Watch 4 but will be available on all Wear OS smartwatches. A post on Reddit now confirms that the platform has started rolling out this update. But users are met with some problems with this new update. The users note that the new update is draining the battery fast, and also there are issues with the sound quality when played in offline mode. But these complaints are not verified by many users who got the update, so we are yet to confirm it. Maybe those are issues with the Bluetooth connectivity or the problem with the device.
Spotify’s offline listening mode comes only with the Spotify Premium account. But Spotify had stated that free users can download podcasts on their devices. Users will be able to download playlists and not individual songs. It will require an extra effort from the users to organize their favourite songs into a playlist before downloading them on their Wear OS smartwatch.
