Segway is set to explore the robot mower market with its Navimow. This is different from other robot mowers in the fact that there is no need of installing a boundary wire. It employs GPS and some other sensors to restrict its movement within the range of your lawn.
Navimow uses an Exact Fusion Locating System that can place it accurately to two centimeters as claimed by the company. Even if the GPS fails, it has other sensors and adequate data to make sure that the function is maintained. You can ask the mower to mow the areas that you want it to, and also set the boundaries. It can also be instructed to stay away from certain parts of the lawn through an app. The company says that it uses an algorithm to define its path so that it won’t have to make criss-cross motions.
Segway claims that the mower is rather silent at 54dB. Specialized blades are attached to the mower to shape edges and corners while the mower cuts the grass above the height that you have set. (It can be set between three to six centimeters.) The device has an IPX6 water-resistant body and can withstand up to 45-degree inclines. There are also some safety details added to the device. It will identify and move away from objects that block them. If your pets or kids come near the blades will soon stop functioning. It can also detect rain and move back to its charging station to avoid the rain. This feature can be turned off so that the device can be used while it’s raining. When its charge drains, it will recharge itself and pick up from where it left off.
Boundary wire installation is a hectic task and it can ruin the garden too as it is laid under the grass. This is where Navimow becomes a better option. A similar device was planned by iRobot too but was delayed due to the pandemic. Segway will release the mower in four different versions. The Navimow H500E costs €1,199 (around $1,425) and will be suitable for lawns that span up to 5,400 sq.ft. All the other three models will be able to mow larger lawns due to their larger batteries. They will also feature a 4G support and a GPS anti-theft system. The highest price among the three models is €2,499 (around $2,970).
