At Galaxy Premiere 2014 event in New York, Samsung has announced Galaxy Tab S tablets in two screen-size variants. Both the variants include a Super AMOLED display and a fingerprint scanner. Apart from the screen-size and battery, both the devices are nearly identical with respect to specifications. The bigger tablet display is 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display with WQXGA resolution (2560×1600 pixels) that translates into 288ppi; and the smaller one has 8.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 359ppi. On the other hand, the bigger tablet features a 7,900mAh battery, while the smaller one has a 4,900mAh battery.

The tablets will be powered by a 1.3GHz Exynos 5 octa-core chipset (quad-core 1.9GHz Cortex-A15 cores and quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores) or 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core chipset along with 3GB of RAM. There is an 8-megapixel rear camera that can record videos at 1080p, and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing shooter. The tablets will also include 16/32GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.

These two tablets gets the credit of being the slimmest in Samsung’s portfolio, but not slimmer than Sony’s Xperia Tablet Z2. The home button also serves the purpose of finger print scanner as in Galaxt S5 smartphone. Both the tablets run on the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat, wrapped under Samsung’s Magazine UI. It also comes preloaded with apps like Milk Audio, Papergarden, Samsung WatchON and Sidesync 3.0 among others. The SideSync app allows Tab S to communicate with a nearby Galaxy S5 over Wi-FI Direct.

The tablets will be available in select markets from June 26 and prices start at $399 (Rs 23,600 approximately) for the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and $499 (Rs 29,500 approximately) for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5.
