The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology has announced to work with Intel and AARNet to develop a new AWS cloud supercomputing facility. This is in hopes to develop the fields of research and education.

It will be using AWS as it will provide secure cloud infrastructure for researchers and students in RMIT’s industry hubs. Cloud computing will give high-performance computing applications.

The university will partner with the connectivity provider AARNet for high-speed internet and communication services. As for the partnership with Intel, it will provide RMIT with processing and storage.

This will help researchers to do works such as genomic sequencing easily as they are unable to do it in traditional servers. This cloud computing will allow the users to process large volumes of data efficiently.

RMIT will take the help of AWS Direct Connect which will allow a connection between the customer’s area to the closest AWS data centre. This will enable a secure private connection to AWS. The increased bandwidth will help the users to experiment with new ideas and test new things at greater speed. The Victorian government’s Higher Education Investment Fund will provide support for this project.
