Opera has announced a new browser called Opera Neon, designed to transform the way we browse the internet by integrating artificial intelligence to handle tasks for users. From online shopping and form filling to generating code, Opera Neon is being positioned as a productivity-first browser built for the AI era.
Currently available through a waitlist, Opera Neon will be offered on a subscription basis once it officially launches, though the company has not yet revealed the pricing.
Opera Neon features a refreshed interface with three standout buttons on the sidebar; which are Chat, Do, and Make.
- Chat provides users with a built-in chatbot that can answer questions, assist with searches, and explain website content while you browse.
- Do is powered by Opera’s in-browser AI assistant, which was introduced earlier this year. This tool is designed to help users complete real-world tasks, such as filling out forms or managing travel bookings directly within the browser, without relying on external websites.
- The Make button stands out the most. It allows users to generate games, websites, code snippets, reports, and other creative content simply by using text commands. This is powered by cloud-based AI running in a virtual machine, which means Neon can continue performing tasks even when your device is offline. Users can also run multiple tasks simultaneously, improving multitasking capabilities.
While these features sound futuristic and promising, AI-based automation in browsers is still evolving. Many such tools in the past have struggled to meet expectations in real-world usage. Moreover, Opera isn’t alone in this space — other tech companies are actively developing similar AI agent features for their browsers.
