Nokia might soon unveil a new tablet

Nokia may have been the ruler of the mobile market in the past, but its tablet brand never achieved the same level of popularity or ubiquity. Only four tablets have been released under Nokia’s name in its troubled recent history, including the pocket-sized Nokia N800 and N810 “Internet Tablets.” HMD Global, which has licensed the trademark for mobile devices, seemed unfazed by the name’s bad history. It’s possible that Nokia may announce not only a new mid-range phone but also its first Nokia-branded tablet during its upcoming October presentation.

Even when Nokia was still producing its own gadgets, it rarely ventured beyond a phone, but it did release tablet-like handsets like the Nokia 7710. When Microsoft “took control,” it released the Nokia Lumia 2520, which was one of the first Windows RT tablets. Its most recent attempt was the 2015 Nokia N1, an Intel-based Android tablet that appeared to compete with the iPad mini.

Now it appears that HMD Global will be attempting to establish Nokia in the tablet market. The manufacturer recently previewed its October event by stating that its family continues to grow. Given that it already has dozens of smartphones, the only way for it to expand is in size.

There have been rumours about this Nokia-branded tablet for a while, although there were some whispers a few months back. The tablet, rumoured to be dubbed the Nokia T20, is said to have a 10.36-inch display, 4GB of RAM, and a Unisoc engine. Only 64GB of storage will be available, perhaps extensible, and network access will be limited to Wi-Fi and 4G.

According to those specifications, the Nokia T20 won’t be anything special, and it’ll most likely be aimed at entry-level markets, with an entry-level price tag to match. The event for HMD Global is set for October 6, and it is believed to include the announcement of a new 6.8-inch Nokia G50 5G powered by a Snapdragon 480 processor.
