Netflix has appointed Alain Tascan as its new president of games, marking a significant hire for the company’s growing gaming division. Tascan previously served as executive vice president for game development at Epic Games, where he oversaw the development of major titles like Fortnite, Lego Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys.

Netflix is also expanding its creative talent pool. Since launching its gaming initiative in 2021, the company has acquired indie studios such as Night School, Boss Fight, Next Games, and Spry Fox. Additionally, Netflix has introduced numerous acclaimed indie games to mobile platforms. In a recent earnings call, executives disclosed that over 80 games are currently in development, nearly doubling its existing library of around 100 titles.

Many of these new games are interactive experiences based on Netflix’s shows and movies, designed to offer fans new ways to engage with their favorite content. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos highlighted the potential to serve “super fandom” through these games. Notably, a multiplayer Squid Game project is set to debut on Netflix Games later this year.

Despite the substantial investment in its gaming division, Netflix’s gaming titles have yet to attract a massive user base. In 2022, the library saw about 1.7 million daily users, with 23.3 million downloads across its games.
